London Property News: 'Traditional property is best for long-term gains'
Landlords looking to buy property to rent in London have been advised to invest in traditional properties if they are in search of long-term gains.
Timothy Lambert, head of consulting at private wealth management firm Ducalian, said more conventional property types are best for those not looking for short-term gains, while innovative assets such as student halls are good for shorter returns and long-term income.
He stressed that property is one of the best investments to make money and urged property seekers to be adventurous and risky when others are exercising caution.
"Since the 1950s, property has outperformed all asset classes bar gold, despite market changes," Mr Lambert said.
"With many buyers, particular first-time buyers, sitting the market out, there is a strong rent market and someone has to be landlord here."
A recent survey from More Than found that one on ten British homeowners said they would have no other choice but to let their property and downsize in the event of a housing slump.
